See my web page (you can see it in the engine image). My conversion
required no engine modifications or cutting, the alternator has a built in
voltage regulator so the stock one can be removed, and has only three wires
to connect (battery, coil and idiot light). Output is 58amps. I haven't
done a write up of it as I've been rather busy but I will do it some time
soon and let ya'll know. The alternator I used is a Nippondenso 160(?) and
they're used in forklifts. I know Tim installed a Bug unit in his car and
was my inspiration for finding a better way (kinda hard to phrase but this
is meant as a complement, not a snide remark :)

Has anyone successfully converted to an altenator for their type3. Is
there anything out there? Or high output generator.
