Recent posts to the list have indicated a variety of problems with dash lights, indicators, etc., along with at least one person removing the speedo. The electrical ground between the speedo unit and the body is good at first, but gets tenuous through the years, the ground current flows through the spring clips that hold the speedo in place. A little rust, a little lack of springiness, misc mods, and the ground connection is lost, occasional, or weak. Attach a separate ground lead from the speedo (and other instruments too) to a GOOD ground behind the dash. Install a male spade connector to the unit make future removal much easier and most of the problems should go away. Electrical behavior weird?, think grounding problems first. And while we're the subject of electical behavior: If you or the PO has EVER sprayed the dash with a dry chemical fire extinguisher, the powder residue interferes with electrical connectors. Get that stuff outtathere. Remove and reconnect EVERY electrical connection to establish fresh metal to metal contact or misc electrical non-functioning will result. BEFORE hitting the dash with a fire extinguisher, turn the key off, wait a few seconds, the fire should go out if it is still limited to electrical stuff. Obviously if you see flames, or the smoke intensifies, hit it with the extinguisher. Yikes, I tend to ramble, oh well . . . . .I'll stop . . . . . - Jeff '67 Sqbk
