Sounds like it may be heat related but need more detail. Does it occur
after a certain rpm? Only when the engine is warmed up? Under load or
does it also occur if the car is just sitting (but accelerator is pressed)?
Make sure all of the spark plug wires are firmly connected to the spark
*plugs*. I had a problem once where I would get erratic missing. Turned
out that one of the spark plug wires was not firmly connected to the plug
and sometimes it would connect and deliver spark and other times it would
bounce away and blahh!, power loss and obvious three-cylinder-only firing.
Also clean the outside of the distributor cap so no spark can leak out --
might as well clean the inside too.

We've recently picked up a '68 sqback. The body is in great shape.
Runs good except for this d.... miss we just can't seem to get ride
of. We've rebuilt the carbs, changed intake manifold gaskets and
reset the timing. Usually after one of the fixes the miss goes away
but comes back. We're trying to get it to pass Calif Smog. Thanks
for any suggestions.
