The factory timing depends on a large number of things, including the
distributor. Other factors include: EGR, decel valve, carburetor/FI
computer, compression ratio, throttle dashpot, emissions regulations.
As far as the distributor goes, I think the important thing is how much
total mechanical advance it provides.
When we start to play the mix and match game, things can start to get very
complicated in a hurry.
