Jonathan, Sorry for the delay in a response, but I've had a few days away. The so called 'performance' distributer is the Bosch 009, it is the unit all VW aftermarket places sell. It's basic, but it works fine, I've been using one on my engine for 4 years, with various heads, CC's and Cams, with Dual Dellortos. I set the timing for 34 degrees when the engine is above 4000 RPM ie max advance. To set is at idle, I think it is 7.5 degrees BTDC
