>Help, I just bought a 1970 type III. first fuel injected VW. Am >unable to start the engine. no fuel to the cylinders.... >where do I begin ... any hints.... > >Thanks Rich Got Gas? (just checking?) :) Is it still fuel injected?! Cool! First, checked the fuses? The fuel pump is electric. Next look at the fuel pump (in front of the car, the cylinder about 8 inches long attached to the back part of the front beam - right side of the car) disconnect the hose from the pump that connects to a tube coming out of the center tunnel of the pan (pokes out under the gas tank), get someone to turn the ignition. Did it squirt? No? Check the electrical connections to the pump (clean them, make sure they connect, etc.) Check to make sure that the tank is not plugged up with rust or junk in the bottom. You will have to drain it to check. Pull the return fuel line from the metal line that goes under the pan to the engine and put this end into a proper container to try and drain the fuel. Does it drain? No? Disconnect the other fuel line and hope it drains. If not, you'll have to pull the tank out from the top, drain it and see how bad it is down there. Either replacing it with another used T-3 tank or resurface it (inside). There are different opinions on how to do this here on the list. This is where I'd look first. Hope this helps, Big Al awpresley@earthlink.net
