This part was unclear. Was Dave asking about the engine air intake vents
below the side window or the 3 ventilation in/outs inside/outside of the
rear hatch? And why did he ask about only one side? Whatever he has should
be there on both sides???

The dash vents will pressurize the cabin so I would not expect fumes.
Opening windows or vents will cause a bit of a vacuum and encourage fumes.
