AC was a dealer-installed option; never a factory option.
To do this they cut up the car badly. Cut holes in the pulley housing to
add the extra pulley; the compressor sits to the right; the air cleaner gets
its top half turned CCW about 45 deg and no longer gets clean air from the
air intake ducts, as well as not fitting properly on the bottom half after
the rotation.
Holes into and out of the body for the Freon lines; condenser under the
front axle somewhere, making fuel pump inaccessable if I recall correctly.
The only thing that I have seen that is as bad is AC in a 914.
My advice: Don't even think about it.
