I can't remember if I already pitched in my .02, so if I'm being redundant, bear with me. So if I'm being redundant, bear with me. Barney (the evil zooper beetle, more on that later) has a Scat Drag-Fast shifter installed. I think it's too notchy and harsh-feeling for my tastes. It does have a lot shorter throw than a stock shifter, but I feel that it is at the cost of usefulness. The only redeeming feature to me is the reverse lock-out, which doesn't work too well either. I have installed a quick-shift kit in the little girl (my '71 Squareback), that I am much happier with. This reduces the stock shifter throw some 40%, the advertisements claim. It costs a lot less, and once I adjusted my shifting style a bit (i.e. quit rowing the car with the shifter), I can shift with it much quicker than I can the Drag-Fast in the super beetle. I think I'll tolerate it in the zooper, but when I finish my roadster, it will probably have a shortened stock shifter with the quick-shift kit in it. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I even came close to hitting reverse with a stock shifter that's in good shape.
