>I tried to figure out how to crank my starter with a >screwdriver, but it looks like there are three, not two, >contacts that have to be bridged... Is this right? There are just two leads you need to jump. The two big ones on the smaller can (solenoid). The third one is a little one that goes to the starter switch, some have a fourth one to the Fuel Injection system. Look for the leads that connect to bolts on the solenoid. First step, tranny in neutral! Check it! (if you are just checking your starter, leave the key off. If you are starting it, have someone ready on the gas pedal with the key on.) Get a REALLY big Screwdriver with a REALLY big insulated handle and touch the side of the screwdriver to the closest big lead. Set the blade on the plastic wall between the two bolts (on the solenoid) and use it for a guide. Now, gathering your wits (especially if you have a fear of electricity), firmly slide the driver on the wall while still keeping the side against the closest bolt. Go WHAM! against the other bolt. Sparks should fly, but not much. Starter motor will spin (granting that you have a good battery). If the engine doesn't spin you have a bad solenoid. This is a good way to tell if you keyswitch doesn't work, also.
