Vernon,

I have a '71 SB with stock exhaust that had the same problem. I knew that I
needed new exhaust anyway and decided to replace the stock muffler. When I took
it apart, virtually every connection to the exhaust ports had some kind of
leak. After I installed the new muffler, the rumbling sound on deceleration you
described stopped.

If you can see the connections to the exhaust ports, they will have a black
sooty deposit all around the area if it is leaking. Good luck.
