Just a reminder, a Bug will perform differently than a heavier Squareback, and this includes mileage. For a stock engine setup the stock exhaust should work fine i.e. no flow restrictions. For better exhaust breathing use a dual quiet pack or a stinger (stingers are much louder), but beware the extra leveraging weight of the dual QP as it's kinda wearing on the headers. Find a way to support it out by the rearward portion (the side easiest to kick) if you can. Adding an extractor on a stock setup may not be a good idea since over-scavanging can reduce your mileage. I believe I've read this but I can't recall the material and knowing my fantastic memory I could be totally wrong -- can anyone expound on this (the extractor on a stock motor, not the mileage part)? Author: type-3-errors@umich.edu at SMTPGATE Date: 8/25/97 10:56 AM ... I don't know what kind of mileage the FI got since everytime I fixed something it would fail somewhere else. With my 34 ICT's I get 17 mpg and that is without 4th gear (soon to be fixed). I also have a 009 dizzy and an extracter exhaust with a single QP or stinger, depending on how abnoxious I feel. If your still using the stock exhaust you might want to replace it. It could be choking the motor. A friend with a Bug and the same setup but with 40 IDF's get about 22, the same he had with the stock carb, but lots more power.
