If you have it out take it to an automotive electric shop and see what they will charge to test it. They might do it for free if they thought you might let them fix it, so see what they would charge to fix it. These things are really rather simple, but if you're not comfortable with electrical things, take it to someone who is. Keep in mind that the generator may be fine and you may just need something else simple. At any rate, if you just want a well functioning electrical systtem, fix the system you've got. If you've got lots of money, time and patience, you could look into an alternator conversion. This is NOT THE SAME as the conversion for a Beetle! I don't know where one might find such a thing, although apparently there were some unusual t3-like vehicles that came out of Brazil with alternators. How about the Aussie-built T3s; did any of them come with alternators?
