I need some help with the pedal assembly in '70 Squareback. Hopefully someone can help. What happened: I was driving normally (mostly mild-mannered:) when I pulled up to a stop sign & pushed in the clutch. It was raining & my foot slipped off the pedal. The pedal SLAMMED back, all the way down to the floor (face down)& the car died. I limped it back home, clutchless, & discovered after initial tinkering that I could push the pedal back up where it belonged...however, it catches on what looks like a stopper (piece of metal bent upwards coming off the floor) and stays at that point. When I push it up like that, I have an engaged clutch. When it's down on the floor (it has to be "influenced" back over the stop), I have nothing. I'm thinking that my cable is not broken because I can see that the cable is moving at the trans (not much, but if I mess with the pedal, I can see it at the back). I am thinking that maybe the hook that the clutch cable slips over may have bent or broken loose??? I either have complete engagement or nothing...no inbetween. I am waiting to get time to take the pedal assembly out to investigate further, hopefully within the next week. If anyone has had any experience with this, or any thoughts before I get started, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance! I have the Idiot manual & the Haynes manual & neither seem to include anything substantail on this...does the Bentley manual cover this???
