I fixed my brakes! It has become an obsession for a month now. It started with my first VW baby-steps of trying to stop a "soft pedal" by bleeding and adjusting the brakes. It progressed to replacing the master cylinder, brake lines, etc. I think I bled the brakes 6 or 7 times in all, and adjusted the rear brakes 4 or 5 times. It turns out that I needed to adjust the rear brakes a lot tighter. Thank you all for your advice and encouragement. Ginger is excited to finally feel safe enough to drive Phillip too. Here's a few things I learned: * The correct rear brake adjustment for a '66 type 3 requires that the pads rub a fair amount * This adjustment may have to be done several times to "center" the pads * Buy a clear vinyl hose to bleed the brakes; it pours the fluid cleanly into a bottle, and you can see any air bubbles and see the old dirty fluid change to clean fluid. * You are never too old to learn Peter Parker Portland, Oregon '66 Square Phillip
