It's very important to understand that the usual mechanical fuel pump stops
automatically anytime the engine stops, but the the usual electric fuel pump
hookup only goes off with human intervention. The difference in an accident
could be the loss of your car, or worse.
Some kind of automatic safety kill feature is a really important feature if
you're going to use an electric fuel pump. I had always thought one could
just continue to use the original distributor, computer, and relays to
control the pump. The oil pressure switch is a much simpler idea. I don't
think the switch contacts will hold up to the full pump current, however,
but it would be trivial to let an oil pressure switch control the original
relay.
