We won't be doing the work ourselves >(can't keep a welder in our apartment too easily). I'd love to know if >anyone has done this, had it done, has any suggestions or insights, >etc... The car is otherwise very solid, so we really feel like we want >to fix it up rather than cut it up, if it's possible. Thanks! -T Ouch!! Who knows what motivates some people to do such things? I think a dash replacement might be possible, but I never thought about it before. You might want to chack with your body man first and see if he thought it might be easier to just weld in the section around the hole. Doing the whole dash would no doubt turn into more work than you ever dreamed. You would want to remove the windshield and the steering column (and hence the gas tank) to do this. It would probably evolve into a more complete repaint job than you had in mind.
