Re: Compression ratio verses HEAT!

I have no clue as to the compression ratio for the 1500 (guess I gotta
check my manuals), but if it was actually 8.5:1 then I want the crank fan!!
My engine is 8:1 and coupled with custom geared tranny (which will be
going back to stock gearing in the future) generates a good amount of heat.
But if I could get a higher volume fan (>cfm) attached that sure would
help!

I was always under the impression that no stock air cooled engine exceeded
8:1 compression. Can someone clarify?

I Am just building an 1835 for my 67 Notch an am up to setting the deck
height using shims so as to obtain a compression ratio that wont blow my
heads off but will give me plenty of power.

Standard 1600 engines had a ratio of 7.5 : 1 and the 1500s had 8.5 : 1 as
far as I know.

I am thinking of going for around 8.0 : 1 for mine. It will be a daily
driver so I want it to run cool but, ofcourse, I want as much power I can
get out of it as I can.

Its an 1835 pancake with twin solex carbs, 009 dizzy, ap2 cam - quite mild
only a lift of about .400" around the same as an Engle 90 if they were to
have ever made one!

What compression ratios are ppl here running? and what sort of heat do they
run? Can anyone suggest a better ratio to run?

Thanks
Dak on,
Simmo
