I agree on the fact that the pushrod should be adjusted correctly, and indeed if the clearance is to small, it is likely to have an effect on the working of you master brake cylinder. If the clearance is too large, the pedal could indeed bottom out and it will take a split second longer before your brakes work in an emergency. But then we are talking more like centimeters than millimeters of clearance. A clearance of a few millimeters will NOT result in low pressure in your braking system requiring multiple pumps with the pedal before you stop. The problem described in earlier postings might only have something to do with the clearance being too small, not too large.
