I have installed an oil temperature gauge on my 1970 Squareback. The sensor is installed on an after market oil sump. The oil temperature rarely exceeds 150 F. I would recommend both an oil temperature and a cylinder head temperature gauge since air cooled engines can overheat locally before the oil temperature gauge shows any problems. The cylinder head temperature sensor should be installed on #3 cylinder (air flow is restricted by oil cooler). My experience is that the engine temperature should be about 180-200 F. Terrisse@AOL.com
