Also, any suggestions on where to get a new (or >rebuilt) generator in southern cal? There are 2 brushes; you probably need to replace both of them. If you mean that the light doesn't shut off even when you turn off the key, then that is a regulator problem. If you think you need a new generator call around until you find a shop that handles Bosch parts and get one rebuilt by Bosch. >One more question... The Idiot's Guide by John Muir: ISBN 0-912528-16-8 Full of good humor, fun to read, wonderful drawings, suffers from trying to cover all air-cooled VWs. Official Service Manual (Robert Bentley): ISBN 0-8376-0057-X The best manual available, covers Type IIIs, 68-73, very complete and factual If you are a novice, start with the first one and consider working your way up. If you already understand the meaning of most of the following words you could just skip to the Bentley manual: torque wrench, ohmmeter, ampere, resistance, wheel bearing, brake fluid. Or you could buy both and cover all the bases.
