Various people have come up with the following possibilities: * FLAME SPRAYING with either: - aluminum ("About $100.00 U.S. It sounds like alot, but it last forever."); - zinc; and finish with heat resistant paint; * CERAMIC COATING. Seems there have been some articles on this subject in the US VW magazines. ("You have to ship your exhaust to them though and it costs about $150 to $200. It gets coated inside and out and will last forever." "...special baked-on ceramic coatings designed to absorb and/or radiate heat better. They would apply a reflective material to the inside and an absorbing layer on the outside, to keep the heat in the exhaust gases. Very durable ...") *GALVANISING. Apparently it is possible to have exhausts galvanised, as someone bought one 6 years ago which is "still in great shape, even went through 1 winter. Unfortunately, all this exhaust is obsolete on the aftermarket now." *HEAT RESISTANT PAINT. Can be brushed on. Must be cheapest alternative. *None of the above. Buy a STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST, made by a few specialised companies only. These are of a different pattern due to the difficulty of forming and welding the metal used. Cost around DFL 600 = US$ 300. Does anyone have anything to add to this? Hanno Spoelstra <H.L.Spoelstra@WbMt.TUDelft.NL> Bloemendaal, The Netherlands
