Re: increasing exhaust/muffler life-span: durable finish?

Hi,
I had both the exhaust and all four heat exchangers sandblasted and then
Zinc plated. This was not done by dipping, but by spraying. I haven't
got a clue asto what the proper english word for that is. It's not paint
but they spray melted zinc (FLAME SPRAYING??) on the bare metal. After
that they were sprayed with heat (>600 C) resistant paint. This was done
a year ago and they still look great. No rust, at least on the outside,
and no pealing of the paint. Rust from the inside is only a major
problem if you drive short distances and only for the exhaust because of
the fumes. The heat exchangers won't rust from the inside unless you
keep the car outside in moisty conditions. My notchback sleeps in a
warm garage, the KG34 is in a heated storage. For me, every heat
exchanger or exhaust I see, I buy. Especially the early type exhaust
with the small het exchangers intergrated, they are very hard to come
by. I've got a good collection at the moment and no, I don't sell them,
sorry.
Cheers,
Theo
