Re: T3 engines

I dropped a valve into my engine... it got tired of rattling around and exited
the engine through the top of the case (this whole process took about a mile at
a speed of 45-50mph). Now I've got a 2.0L!!! My advise: New engine.
Definitely replace the *whole* head and buy a NEW oil cooler. I'd advise
against reusing internal parts because they've been exposed to scratching due to
metal particles floating in the oil and very likely have been prematurely worn
due to the oil pressure loss when the engine barfed (my first indication that
something was wrong, aside from that weird rattling, was the total loss of oil
pressure).

Hi,
After a long search I finally found a (busted) 6v 1500S engine from
1965, one with flat crowned pistons. What
do I want that for you might ask ? I've got a 1965 1500S T34 KG. In
the seventies someone put in a dual carb,
dual port 12v 1600 engine (one whith the extra engine mounts), which
runs great by the way. They also
converted the rest of the car to 12v. Except for the transmission
and thus starter motor !!! As you all know a
6v starter and 12v flywheel don't match so both are ruined. That's
one of the reasons I took the 1600 engine
out. But as I'm also a freaky purist I wanted a 1965 1500S engine
and to convert the car back to 6v. I also
have a 1967 12v 1500 single carb engine. The problem with the 1500
S engine is that, as you might have guessed,
one of the valves broke and made a fairly nice hole in the piston.
The guy I bought it from took the engine
apart, ,got scared (?) and put the head and cylinders etc in a box
and left it for some time. This resulted in
a slight rust in both cylinders and the head. He also didn't block
the holes in the case. My question to you
all is what is wise and possible ??
1) Clean the cylinders and head (possible? if so how), buy a new piston
and valve and put it back together.
2) Use the cylinders and pistons of the 1500 single carb engine for the 1500S
3) also use the head from the 1500 single carb engine.
4) Take the whole 1500S engine apart because of metal parts at odd
locations like oil pump, cooler etc, scrap
the other 1500 engine and use as many parts from that one as possible.
I worked on type 3 1600 engines before, but I can't quite figure out
which parts from which engine are
interchangeble.
Does anybody have suggestions ??
