Pat, I would recommend you get one of the extractor systems. You shouldn't have any problems with Dual Muffs in terms of clearance, but they will pull (due to the extra weight) on the joints where your header meets the original exhaust connections (the exhaust ports on cylinders 2 & 4 and the heat exchangers from 1 & 3). This may or may not cause a problem with the lower exhaust clamps providing a solid seal over time. It gave me problems. A single muffler works good on a stocker. My preference, if your rear body seals are *tight*, is a Stinger. Good sound and free-flowin', not to mention the very distinct look! What would be really nice is if someone constructed an extension pipe that ran from the exhaust collector to the side of the vehicle which would have a flange to attach the Stinger. An L-shaped pipe would allow the Stinger to point its exhaust to the side of the vehicle, or an S-shaped pipe would still allow the Stinger to point to the rear but its physical location would be on the outside edge of the vehicle (like the exit of a standard muffler). Imagine a {-shaped bracket, a Stinger on each side of the vehicle... :P Anyway, those are two good choices. I know the Turbo Tuck (sp?) will only fit the Bug due to the Bug's more open fender structure. Author: type-3-errors@umich.edu at SMTPGATE Date: 10/16/96 11:03 AM I am interested to know if anyone has any experience with adding a header exhaust to a Squareback. The OE exhaust on mine is shot; a replacement muffler (German) will cost me about $250.00 here in Finland, and aftermarket (Bugpack or something) is slightly less and in the end will work better with my planned purchase of 009 ignition and Weber 34ICT carbs. My concern is mainly with the rear valance. My Squareback's valance is perfectly straight and I would like to keep it that way. Do the aftermarket exhaust systems that run single or dual turbo mufflers hit the valance or require it to be bent or even removed (sounds dumb)? If so, is there an better choice? Thanks in advance.
