More slippin'

Big Al,
So are you saying to replace the converter or have the ATF and filter
cleaned again??? The car did sit in a field for eight years.....it has
the original tranny but I had a spare engine from a 71 to drop in it.
By the way, what do you mean the "stall switch"??

*****

Larry,

OK, I got the correct name for the "stall switch". VW calls it
"Kickdown switch" (part # 003 927 211). It will be near your air
intake box (the box that connects the air filter and the intake tubes).
It is a small tweezer-like switch about an inch and a half long. It's
to "kick down" the rpm of the engine. If you have a T-3 parts book
check in the engine section under "Fuel Injection System." My book
shows it on the bottom right of the illustration.

But to answer the first question, I would suggest that you
get/replace/have someone test your torque converter. If you have
changed your fluid and are at the proper level then it is either the
converter OR possibly the ATF pump (that dome shaped thing on the left
side of the tranny with the valve-cover-like bail on it). [that just
occured to me.]

The Fluid and the filter may be OK.

The only other thing that occured to me is: did the "new" '71 engine
come out of an Auto Tranny also?

If not there are some items you will need from the original motor. (like
the Kickdown switch)

Hope this helps.

Big Al
