FI problems

There were two sensors, but they are electrically identical, just the wire
length changed. The microfilm mentions a third one and refers to some parts
service bulletin which I have no knowledge of. I've never seen one.

Check the electrical system voltage. If the regulating voltage is a bit low
the computer will run the system a bit rich. I know, totally unexpected and
nonsensical, but it's true. There's usually no effect down to 13.5 V, but
below that things start to get worse and by 12.5 V they are VERY annoying to
drive. If you have this problem the solution is to replace the voltage
regulator with a genuine Bosch (until I get mine in production.)

Anything's possible, but I suspect you have some other problem and the
normal variation in sensors has put you off into another area of parameter
space!

>4) What would cause the idle to change so drastically with engine temperature?

I don't know. The aux air regulator's job is to hold the idle speed
approximately constant as thecar warms up. They always overcompensate a bit
and run a bit faster when cold, but it's usually not that noticable. At
this speed I would think your throttle position switch should shut down the
engine and you should get that good old loping idle. I would also check the
adjustment of that
switch, too.
