I always keep my valves right at .006 and I've tried a variety of timing settings between 0 and 5 degrees advance both before and after putting on a new muffler system. (I was trying to get the system to stop running so rich) I never had the backfiring problem before I put on the new muffler. However, I changed other things at the time, so I can't be too positive about the cause just yet. Thanks, Doug
