Re: IRS vs swing

IRS or Swing! If a car such as my '64 'S' notch or my '65 Panel Van T#
came with swing then that is exactly what goes back in, particularly
when lowerred slightly which I do to every one of my T3's. Yes even the
'S' is a tad bit lower- sorry Keith, but it does handle better and as an
example the other night when racing the 'S' through a corner, the back
end slid out sideways and all I had to do was correct with the front
wheels in the direction I wished to travel and the car came back on line
and I proceeded at 60km's which is what I was doing around the corner-
No folks I don't treat the 'S' like this, I was comparing my Dad's 2002
BMW as he lowerred his that day and well you know how it goes! Also I do
not like how the IRS vehicles support the engine and gearbox- this is
crap! When I worked at a VW shop I think I welded the supports back into
the body on about half a dozen late models due to rust and fatigue. I
would suggest getting an earlier swingaxle sub frame and then weld in
the IRS pivot points thereby getting support at the gearbox, the engine
and possible at the top of the engine if you have an earlier body too.
Don't dump the clutch in an IRS model! With a Berg intermediate mount in
my Panel Van (swingaxle), I know it will be alright! Can't wait to give
it a rev, 2276cc's of fat Type 3 power, Yippee!
