Auto Trans Slipping Badly Now :-(

Just as a check, the transmission fluid level should be up to the line with 
the car level, transmission warmed up and in neutral, and engine running!  
If you are reading the level with the engine off (the right way to check 
engine oil) then you will get the wrong answer here.  Use Dexron ATF.

BTW, the final drive on AT cars is separate from the ATF.  It requires GL-5 
gear oil and can only be checked and topped up from below.  Ignoring this 
can be a very costly mistake.
