Tim,

I'd never seen one before and could only assume that it was was stopper of 
some sort.  Perhaps to stop the oil from spraying up the filler tube.

I always look at mine in terms of the lower mark being the minimum needed and 
the upper mark being the full mark.  Anymore is too much, any less and top it 
up.

I would think you'd have to fill to the same level but there would be more oil 
in your system.  Will have a look at my dipstick tonight and let you know for 
sure.
