Well, the rear end is all back together but the brakes aren't on as I
remeberred I don;t have any new slave cylinders so tomorrow night. I
will slowly drive it out the driveway so my dad can work on his 2002 a
bit later. But that's trivial so lets get onto the subject of colours.
Yes that's how we spell colour in Australia. Stop Laughing!
As at 8/1964 the following body colours were available. Remeber that VW
1500 'S' vehicles all had wheel trims and as such all 'S' models that I
have ever seen or heard of came with baked enammell black wheels to
highlight the slots within the wheel trims like I have just done to my
car (took of the polished 5-spokes - much more stock looking now-
amazing how wheels can transform the look. Might put the BRM replica's
on though....)
Back to the subject:
I might have to scan in the information as it relates to the interior
patterns and colours but here are the body colours:
Schwarz (black)
Rubinrot (Ruby red)
Seeblau (Sea blue)
Perlweiss (Pearl White)
Safaribeige (Safari beige)
Seesand (sea sand colour- ick!)
Samtgrun (Velvet Green like my Notch- nice!)
Balticblau (Baltic Blue- nice
They are the only colours offered in the booklet however I know they
offerred a couple others like a terrrible brown colour that is
reportedly the rarest colour for an 'S'. There is good reason for that.
Also the top half of the car was also available in a different colour
and although it doesn't say in the book what the name of the colour is I
guess you could have got white, black (maybe, like KG's), and a horrid
yellow/white colour- ick! The book also shows the available interior
colours and these get a little involved so unless you have your mind set
on a particular colour for the body I wont bother telling all about
this. Not much you can do about the interior anyways as the materials
would be hard to get spot on exactl;y like the factory. Mention should
also be made about the availability of different colours for the
gearshift boot and things like that. I have a NOS blue and an NOS green
gearshift boot and they look fabulous. Still not sure about putting the
green one in the 'S'. Does anyone have any information on other bits
being of a particular colour like steering wheels etc. Also on my Notch,
the original fender beading and hood moustache thingy rubber is green
and as such I have been pulling my hair out for the last 5 years
locating the stuff NOS so when it gets a paint I will replace it. I have
not found one piece of green beading, no I don't want anything else.
Must be NOS! (my motto is NOS NOS NOS if you haven't already gathered).
I did however find the moustache thingy rubber NOS and in green so I am
not too worried about finding the beading yet. I am looking for NOS
black beading at the moment for my '65 T3 Panel Van and that is not as
easy as it sounds. I would have thought black would be quite easy to
find but it aint so.
Any questions please mail back to the whole list for all to enjoy.
I am thinking about making my own web page dedicated to the history and
specs of the early T3's or all T3's just to be fair. Would be agood
place to put copies of original brochures and specs like the colours etc
.
See ya'll later
Aaron.
