Re: [T3] This morning's work
<x-flowed>One more thing stemming from yesterday's work. What would you expect GL-5
gear oil to look like after approx. eighteen months and 2000km.?
I opened up the diff. fill plug and let a small amount of GL-5 oil dribble
out into a container. I did this to see whether I could tell whether ATF is
leaking into the diff from the tranny.
The oil was yellow when it went in. It is now brown, but very clear. It's
still thick and kind of sticky. I dripped a few drops onto a paper towel and
let it spread out. Hopefully, if the oil was mixed with ATF, this would have
left a yellow area, and a pink one, as they separated.
What actually happened was that as the oil spread out it appeared that there
was only yellow oil, and an amount of brown stuff, which stayed at the
center of the blot, which I assume is dirt or something from inside the
diff.
Does this sound right? If the ATF were leaking into the diff, this would be
a good time to take out the tranny and fix it, but I don't want to if I
don't have to.
