I thought the '71 gave the best power and driveability, with good gas mileage. '72 had the dual vac advance which makes tuneups complicated and lots of people get confused here because most of the aftermarket manuals omit the steps necessary to do a '72 tuneup. '72 & '73, I think, both suffered very slightly from the more stringent emissions requirements of those years. > I've already rebuilt the calipers and replaced the rotors on my 70. No, you have to use late calipers with late rotors, backing plates, and steering knuckles to put together a compatable set. If your front axle beam is still okay then it's much easier to just swap the whole assembly, If you don't want to bother, I know there are several people on this list who would like to buy at least the steering knuckles with the backing plates. If anyone wants a pair of middle era (68-71) steering knuckles w/backing plates, I have a good used pair for sale. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
