The third digit of your VIN is the year. This car started out its life as a 72. You already have the late IRS suspension, which includes 2 rear engine supports. Yours are on either side of the rear of the engine and they replace the early single rear support, which really did very little. > The engine has all type 3 tin including the cool tin pieces. > This car is way dark and my interest in the support comes from off road > duty. I've seen IRS type 3 which had been taken off road, and the rear mounts broken from the body of the car. Actually the welds didn't break, the sheet metal that the mounts were welded to just tore away. I don't think adding the early style rear mount will add any significant strength, but you could still do it if you found a 68 or earlier donor car. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
