That's a really good point. Not only do you eliminate transmission 
losses, but you also use a free energy source. Your only costs are 
for the equipment to gather that energy. Those costs are significant, 
however.

Where you live, solar is a pretty viable energy source. Where I live 
we're seeing more and more wind power. Nevertheless, we're all way 
behind Germany in the % of power generated from wind and solar.
