It has nothing to do with the fuel system type. You have to ask yourself
whether you've provided any way for the crankcase blowby to escape the case. In
most carb conversions of 72-3 engines, this results in all the blowby coming
out around the rear end of the crank, between the case and the fan housing,
because all the other routes have been blocked off.
Owners generally don't notice this until they stop to ask, "Why do I have piles
of crappy oil blowing out between my engine and case making a mess of my engine
and driveway?"
The only good fix that I know of is to install an earlier breather (and oil
filler pipe) and route the breather tube into one of the air cleaners.
The ports on the heads are meant to be clean air inlets, but with this
conversion it's appropriate to just block them off. If you don't use them, then
at your next valve job, it would probably be best to swap them for heads
without those ports and make the original 72-3 heads, which are hard to find,
available to someone who needs them.
