Before the kits existed we talked about how the overflow hose was a big problem 
with no easy solution. Each owner had to try to come up with his own solution, 
but that was a LOT to expect. This was all before you joined the list, so you 
would not be aware of it.

If I find water damage inside the pump I always email the owner, mention the 
likely cause, and quote the price of my kit. Sometimes they buy and sometimes 
they tell me that they have already provided their own fix. That's fine with 
me, but I'd really like to see a reduction in the number of water damaged pumps 
that I see.

Easily, it's only 3 psi over what it normally does.

Filling up before errands is no problem. The only problem is filling up and 
then immediately parking for the whole day.

That sounds right, except the tube running to the expansion tank is steel. On 
your '71 there is a plastic tube running across the top of the trunk followed 
by a plastic hose that runs down the driver's side to that steel tube that runs 
out thru the grommet to the expansion tank.

On earlier cars, the line across the top of the trunk was also steel, but they 
fixed that by '71.

I think there is a lot more than 6' of steel line, but less than 5 feet of 
rubber hose. That front to rear steel line starts at the top of the fender, 
comes down, runs the length of the rockers, around the jack point, and up the 
rear to the charcoal cannister. The rubber hose is probably still fine.

The hard plastic & steel lines are closer to 3/16" than to 1/8".
