Re: [T3] oil light flicker?!

<x-flowed>I assume (and hope) the oil light is only flickering at idle.

Was the air temp high? That would make the oil thinner and with bearings worn the idle oil pressure can get low enough for the light to flicker.

What grade of oil was used? Sometimes too heavy a grade can make things run hotter - with my 92,000 mile engine I find 20-50 will tend to cause oil light flicker after a 70mph drive, until things cool a bit, while straight 30 grade seems OK (certainly with outside temp around 70F - don't get too many days here when it's over 80F).

For a worn engine, VW say it's perfectly acceptable for the oil-light to flicker at idle, as long as it goes off again when not idling.

The fresh oil gets dirty again quite quickly - unless you have a full-flow oil filter (I hear).

Subject: [T3] oil light flicker?!

so i just took my

70 fback

in for a full maintenance
...family owned biz, very reputable...all vws...been there before.
...points, plugs, fuel hose replaced, fuel filter, vc gasket, drain plate
gasket, 3 qts oil,

when i took it home after running at over 70 mph...oil light started to
flicker..
checked oil...level good, but black...
today, no oil light, smokey when started, then fine...no more smoke...no
light. no flickering

...then, coming home no oil light...
then flickering oil light...only at idle.
when i accelerate and GO...light no longer flickers.

i know too much oil is just as bad as too little.
can anyone help out a helpless newbie.

thanks!
debating taking back to the shop...45 minutes away...and cant do until
friday. car is parked until then.
