Re: [T3] Getting darker around here.... (DDB Alt. otw)

If the DDB's alternator
is like any of the others being produced today in Japan, it'll probably
go at
least 100 to 150K before it needs replacing/rebuilding. My son's GEO has
over
160K on it's OE alternator, and it's still going. My S-10 pickup's
alternator
went 125K before it started to die, so as long as it's not a domestic
unit,
you should have a warm and fuzzy feeling for quite some time. Also, if
you
don't use the entire 65 amps, you should get more mileage out of it, as
load is
what hurts them (taxes the brushes).
That's encouraging! In terms of excess (i.e. beyond stock) loads I've
only added fog lights (mounted on ISP light bar... love it) and a 200w
stereo w/ powered subwoofer, so I don't believe I will begin to scratch
the surface of the 65 amps until I upgrade my headlights--eventually I'd
like to mount 100w H4s--and am driving on a rainy night cranking tunes.
I'll post some picts once the alt. is installed... my old gen was the
only part on the engine that hadn't either been replaced, rebuilt and.or
repainted, so I'm looking forward to the Bling Bling under the decklid.
:)
Cheers,
