They are what you see on the outside against the glass, or not. Odds are that there isn't anything there. Just to compare look at any modern new car. Mine disintegrated years ago.
So, then the reason for the water could be the plugged drain? Maybe it is time to have my Father hose the auto while inside.Thus the importance of the drains in the door to get rid of the water the inevitably gets in there.
I know. There is a company selling modified ones, and I also have the option to do it myself (most likely will in a decade or two).The plastic is there to protect the interior panel from the water that will get in there. There are no direct replacement parts either.
