It's Sunday evening and, sadly, it's all over now. Keith, Brian, and
I are still at John's house for this last night, but we'll all be
heading home tomorrow.

It was an absolutely great Invasion. The weather and location could
not have been better. We had a hilly, tree-filled little valley to
ourselves with a single lane path winding thru it and we were all
able to park anywhere in the grass under the trees to enjoy the
shade, the cars, and the company of other Type 3 nuts like ourselves
for hours on end. We had beautiful blue skys with the occasional
cumulous cloud the entire time, and, other than the first night in
John's back yard, there was enough breeze to thwart the mosquitoes.

We had many new faces and quite a few old faces, but most of all it
was good to see the cars that people had written about and put them
together with the faces of the actual owners.

Somehow, there just never seems to be an end to the give and take of
questions and answers on Type 3 topics. Just tonight, after everyone
had left and we were back at John's house, we noticed that the
license plate recess on the back of some cars is wider than on
others. Right now it appears that this widened sometime in mid-'71.
The perennial question about diagonal vs. horizontal script on the
rear deck came up again, and remains as much of a mystery as ever.

I think everyone who showed up had a better time than he or she
expected to, and we're all looking forward to the next one.

Thanks to everyone who showed up. It didn't matter what condition
your car was in, just showing up in one was a boost to each of us.
Special thanks go to John Jaranson for organizing this event. We're
all extremely grateful for all the work he put into it, as well as
for the help and good humor of John's friend, Jill.
