Re: fi vs carb?

<x-flowed>Just one word , Dellorto.
But I'm biased.I had a sort of original car.Hacked up and not running.
The FI was hacked up as well.Bought a stroker. After washing the rings out, I was forced to regroup and plump for dells.I still have the FI stored away safely. There it will stay.If I had an original car, I'd stick with the d-jet.If you follow the troubleshooting in the Bentley AND do it methodically,It will reward
you with trouble-free operation.

Subject: RE: fi vs carb?

FI is great for those who drive in different elevations, like from Denver to Kansas City. Carbs tuned to one elevation will be outta whack when entering a new elevation, FOR EXAMPLE, carbs tuned at sea level will run rich when driven
into the mountains.

There's +/- for either system, however, FI is a technological advancement over carbs and will be the better system overall (in daily drivers...race cars are
a different argument) but it comes with a different level of education and
trouble-shooting. It is a very easy system to trouble-shoot, by the way, if only people would take the time to learn it JUST AS THEY DID WHEN THEY WERE
LEARNING CARBS!!! Of course there will be those who think carbs are the
end-all and are likely better at tuning them than FI. Having owned BOTH
systems (and still using carbs on my baby) I can say FI is waaaaaaay easier to synch ;-) and fix than carbs. I admit to having enough of a dislike for carbs
that I defer my tuning to Darth Fye ;-)

Converting to another fuel induction system is more spendy than proper
trouble-shooting...replacing parts without testing is a waste of money and NOT the proper way to trouble-shoot as so many "mechanics" try with FI ;-) Even
when converting to carbs, care must be taken care with the existent FI
wiring...I can speak from experience that when a mechanic doesn't pay
attention that the wiring can short out and melt. Filled my car with smoke
when that happened and all my mechanic could say was, "Oops!" >:-(
