re:T3] Repop dash (and other reproduction parts)
<x-flowed>
Those repro dashes look ok, but as you have noted they all come with the
later model speaker grills molded into them. I wish they would make one
with just the holes for the speakers as the earlier Type 3's have.
They are a bit of a pain to install. They are not the best fitting
parts I have ever seen. I helped a guy put one in his square quite some
time ago. We had to take the VIN number off of the old dash and using a
small riveting gun rivet it to the new dash.
Yes, you must take the guages out of the car. This isn't too bad. Just
reach up under the dash and squeeze the clips on the side of the gauges
together and they'll come right out.
Write down which wire goes to which gauge terminal.
You will also have to:
Remove the chrome trim strip where it runs along the bottom of the dash
pad. Be very careful so that you don't bend it. This is a NLA part, as
far as I know.
You'll have to remove the glove box insides to get at the grab handle at
the top of the dash.
Then remove your gauges and the screws under the windshield that hold
the pad down.
You will see a lot of dirt and crud on the top of the dash underneath
the pad. You may want to clean this off before installing the new pad.
Like installing seats, I find it best to let the new pad sit out in the
sun for a few hours before installing it. It seems to stretch a bit more
and is easier to fit.
When you are done, you will definitely have a nicer looking dash.

I got the reproduction dash cover from ISP yesterday. It looks OK, but the
speaker grill is molded in with the rest of the dash. I was thinking that I
could use the original speaker grill, but no-o-o-o-o-o-o!
Does anyone have any experience with this? The installation instructions
are sparse, but it LOOKS easy enough to install. Do I need to take the
gauges out?
