Re: [T3] Could it work?

<x-flowed>I'm not sure he meant to make a Beetle engine into a diesel, but to put in an air-cooled diesel engine. I don't know if they're available built lightly enough and air-cooled. Most of the lightweight vehicle diesels are water-cooled anyway.

Brazil used to have Beetles that ran on alcohol distilled from fermented sugar cane. I don't know the technical and financial costs though, but it worked.

I also recall a Beetle with a steam-engine. As long as you can pick up more water along the route, you could burn most fuels in that, probably.

I'd expect this to be difficult because of the high compression needed for a
diesel. I doubt if the head studs would hold up. With case savers, they might,
especially if you invested in one of the new aluminum cases, but without case
savers and with an original magnesium case, I don't think you have any chance
of success.
