T-4 automatic's had a lower differential ratio. This will throw off the
shift points. The govenor is driven by the differential. Also, if the
timing isnt right, the manifold vacuum won't be right.

My "Without Guesswork" from 1974 shows a final drive ratio of 4.125:1 for the automatic transmission in the Type 3, and there were two varieties for Type 4s: 3.90:1 and 3.73:1. I would also think the main difference between those transmissions is the final drive ratio.
