My "Without Guesswork" from 1974 shows a final drive ratio of 4.125:1  
for the automatic transmission in the Type 3, and there were two  
varieties for Type 4s: 3.90:1 and 3.73:1. I would also think the main  
difference between those transmissions is the final drive ratio.
