2 looks to me like it could be a '67 mirror.

This looks like a correct late mirror, but it looks to me like it
should be a left mirror for a RHD car. Notice that the stems are long
on some and short on others. In general, the long stems go on the
side opposite the driver; the extra length is necessary to get the
mirror out where it's visible from the far side. I can't see for
sure, but it MAY have the beetle style locknut (see below) on it.

In a given year there were 4: LHD Right, LHD Left, RHD Right, &RHD
Left. 68 and maybe 69 were the same shape as the later ones, but had
a different (and inferior) mount that wasn't easily vertically
adjustable. So that makes 8 different mirrors for 68-73, but those
all have the same shape mirror, like your # 3.

Within types, there were differences that I believe were due to who
actually made them for VW, but they were all the same general design
and shape. The differences show up in the shape of the metal where
the arm joins to the metal body behind the mirror.

Earlier mirrors were smaller, but someone else will have to explain
the history.

At least for the later years, the beetle mirrors had the same shape
as the type 3 mirrors. In fact, the only difference was the "nut"
that tightened against the face of the door. The type 3 nut fits flat
against the door, while the beetle nut has a cylindrical section that
fits down inside the door. The type 3 nut uses a plain flat
translucent plastic washer under it, while the beetle one got a
formed black seal.

If you change those parts, I don't think you can tell the difference:
One converts exactly to the other.
