Here's what the electric AAR looks like from a 914. It's very similar to
the Type 3 AT. For a Type 3, the tubes are inline, not angled like this
one. It's located between the distributor and the breather box, and has
one hose connecting to the bottom of the intake air distributor and
another to the air cleaner.

Mine's a '73, but I think all the electric AARs are the same on a Type
3. It should electrically measure 13 ohms or so between the wire and the
body of the device. When cold air should blow right through, fully
warmed up (after a few minutes of getting 12V) it should be pretty much
closed up.
