Just pull the movable portion up and off the pivot pin, then put it back down with the spring not engaged. Now you can tell whether the pivot is completely free or not. Nylon swells slightly upon exposure to oil (and even a bit with water.) In the distributor, I use oil down the shaft of dists with mech advance, but I use grease everywhere else. The grease lube points need to be disassembled to lube them, but this also allows for cleaning out the old grease and removing any dirt that got trapped there. Other than the cam, which I clean and grease every time I do a tuneup, those other grease spots only get touched about every 10-15 years. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
