Re: [T3] long distance gas mileage experiment

<x-flowed>
Wow, interesting.

A friend and I once drove a 1200cc Beetle a couple of thousand miles at around 55mph. We would consistently get 37.5mpg day after day. Smaller engine than a Type 3, of course, but I'm sure that the low speed was a huge part of the good mileage figure.

We saw gas prices ranging from $3.15 to $2.73. The highest were in
the mountains of Arizona and the lowest were in Nebraska/Iowa.

I bought gas for the first time in about a month yesterday... I was surprised to see that Chevron supreme was US$3.50 and nine tenths of a penny per gallon. Ouch. Also hit a 2006 mileage figure of 1,400miles today... on the tandem bicycle. Gas prices like this are making 2006 an exceptionally good year for cycling. :-o
